Our 24 Hour EMT Refresher Topics Course was designed for currently certified or expired State or currently certified National Registry EMT’s. This course applies as Continuing Education (CE) credit. This online EMS course meets local and state requirements for California and most other states. Our 48 Hour Online Paramedic Refresher Topics course is designed for current or expired State of California Paramedics and currently certified NREMT Paramedics. The course includes Instructor based training for California Licensed Paramedics, and meets the state and local requirements for California. Course content includes: Paramedic Operations; Airway, Breathing, and Cardiology; Medical Emergencies; Trauma; Obstetrics and Pediatrics; and Special Operations. Our 24 Hour EMT Transition course is for EMT-Basics who want to become eligible for National EMS Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). This course meets the requirements of the NREMT Transition Policy. This course can be taken for CE credit. Per new EMS Education Standards, an EMT-Basic with an expiration date of March 31, 2011 or March 31, 2012 has two registration cycles (4 years) to complete a state approved Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) transition course to be eligible for EMS National Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT).
Paramedic & EMT Continuing Education Requirements
State and NREMT certified EMS professionals are required to meet various Refresher and state / NREMT continuing education requirements in order to keep their certification up-to-date.
State Certified EMTs & Paramedics
State EMS Continuing Education and Paramedic / EMT recertification requirements vary widely by state and change frequently. Although our courses are accepted in most states, please check with your local and state EMS authority to verify the Paramedic / EMT continuing education requirements for your state, and that our courses will be accepted for Paramedic / EMT recertification.
National Registry EMT (NREMT)
National Registry EMTs have three options for NREMT recertification prior to certification expiration:
- Refresher & Continuing Education – Requires 24 hours of Refresher training (10 hours may be taken online) and 48 hours of Continuing Education (24 hours may be taken online).
- Continuing Education Only – Requires 72 hours of Continuing Education (24 hours or more must include USDOT curriculum). 24 hours may be taken online.
- Test Only – A certified NREMT may make one attempt to pass the NREMT exam. If the exam is passed, the NREMT card will be renewed.
There are three options to recertify prior to certification expiration:
- Refresher & Continuing Education – Requires 48 hours of refresher training (10 hours may be taken online) and 24 hours of Continuing Education training (12 hours may be taken online).
- Continuing Education Only – Requires 72 hours of Continuing Education (48 hours or more must include National Paramedic Scope of Practice Topics). 22 hours may be taken online.
- Test Only – Requires no training hours and Paramedics must pass the exam on first attempt.
