Quick Tips | Types of Respirators |
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1562057535557{margin-top: -20px !important;}”][vc_column_text]Respiratory protection must be worn in hazardous atmospheres. The type of respirator that should be used depends on the contaminants and protection factor needed:
- Single-Strap Dust Masks – Not appropriate for hazardous atmospheres. May help protect against pollen or other allergens.
- Approved Filtering Facepieces – Can be used with dust, mists, and welding fumes, but NOT gases or vapors.
- Half-Face Respirators – Can be used with most vapors, dust, acid gases or welding fumes. Cartridges/filters must match the contaminants.
- Full-Face Respirators – Can be used with most vapors, dust, acid gases or welding fumes, and is more protective than half-face respirators. Cartridges/filters must match the contaminants.
- Loose-Fitting Powered-Air-Purifying Respirators (PAPR) – A fan pulls air through the filters and circulates air through the helmet/hood. Cartridges/filters must match the contaminants.
- Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) – For entry and escape from IDLH or oxygen deficient atmospheres.
Required respirators must be NIOSH-approved and a medical evaluation and training must be provided before respirator use.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
