This online HAZMAT First Responder Awareness Level I course is designed for law enforcement personnel who need awareness-level hazardous materials emergency response training. It may be taken as either initial training or annual refresher training.

The course helps students recognize hazardous materials incidents, understand the role of HAZMAT emergency responders, identify hazardous materials, substances, and wastes, and learn the basic actions First Responders should take during a hazardous materials incident.

The course includes an introduction to hazardous materials emergency response, HAZMAT emergency responders, hazardous materials, substances and wastes, recognizing HAZMAT incidents, use of the Emergency Response Guidebook, managing HAZMAT incidents at the awareness level, and basic actions for First Responders.

The course is completed entirely online through the Online Training System. It is fully narrated, interactive, self-paced, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Progress is saved to the last completed section.

Students have up to 12 months after enrollment to complete the course.

Yes. The course consists of three modules and includes one exam after each module. Quiz questions within the course sections help students prepare for the module exams. Exams may be retaken as many times as needed in order to pass. 

During enrollment, students may choose a course option that includes either a downloadable Emergency Response Guidebook or a mailed Emergency Response Guidebook.

After completing the course, students can immediately download, save, or print their Course Completion Certificate in PDF format.
