Florida does not have their own occupational safety and health program that has been approved by the federal government. Since Florida is not a Plan State, the hazardous waste operations and emergency response workplace regulations provided by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) / Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) must be followed by Florida workers. The federal government requires workers who handle hazardous materials to complete 24 hour or 40 hour HAZWOPER training, followed by annual refresher training.
