Join the National Safety Stand-Down (Fall Prevention) | May 4 – 15, 2015

Falls are the leading cause of death in the construction industry, causing hundreds of fatalities and thousands of debilitating injuries each year. With these numbers, it’s probably not surprising that lack of proper fall protection is among the most frequently cited OSHA violations.

In order to raise awareness of this often fatal hazard, OSHA and its partners are encouraging employers and workers to participate in a National Safety Stand-Down from May 4 – 15, 2015, which is focused on fall hazards and prevention. To participate, employers and workers should gather together during the workday, anytime between May 4 – 15, to have a toolbox talk, safety activity, demonstrations, and/or training aimed at helping protect workers from falls.

Participation is voluntary and encouraged for anyone interested in preventing falls in the workplace, such as construction companies, contractors, general industry employers, government workers, unions, institutes, worker interest organizations, and safety equipment manufacturers.

For additional information on the event, the National Safety Stand-Down 2015 website contains a wealth of information, including free education and training resources, as well as fact sheets. Additionally, information is provided on how to conduct a successful stand-down and how to receive a certificate of participation.
